“On the 22nd April 2018 I crashed my bike while racing at Anglesey, breaking my Tibia, Fibula and Talus bones in my right ankle. The hospital in Bangor were amazing and gave me the best chance of making a good recovery but due to the nature of a Talur fracture there was still a one in three chance the damaged bone would die and the ankle joint would need to be fused solid.
When I arrived home I began searching for ways to improve the chances of a good outcome and I found Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Swanley Unit for Multiple Sclerosis. I got in touch and they couldn’t have been kinder or more willing to help. I went to the centre for HBOT up to three times per week for three months while I was on crutches and within 6 months the surgeons were satisfied that the Talus bone was healed, something they said could take two years after the surgery.
In addition to the physical healing, the kindness and support offered from both the volunteers who run it and also my fellow users of the centre is something that I will forever remember and be grateful for.”
